The Ayer Conservation Commission began updating our wetlands bylaw to bring before Town Meeting in the Spring of 2017. The Commission believes that we need to protect our wetlands in a manner more specific to the needs and challenges of our Town than provided for in the State’s law. Based the feedback received, the Commission now intends to bring the new bylaw proposal before the Autumn Town Meeting. The issues the Commission wishes to study further are the topics of intermittent streams, and how best to balance the need to respect the rights of homeowners to manage their property as they see fit, with the need to protect the wetland and water resources which contribute so much to the character of our town, and the quality of our lives.
